Community River Clean-up Day

Sugarcreek Township RiverKeepers organized a community river clean-up this past weekend on Saturday, 6/26/10.  Approximately 55 volunteers and committee members of all ages participated during the successful event.  The large group canoed down three sections of the Little Miami River, picking up 800 to 1000 pounds (an estimated amount) of trash.  A full-size washing machine was one of the strangest objects found along the river.  The Community Center hosted a potluck lunch that followed the cleanup.  Sugarcreek Township RiverKeepers would like to extend a special thank you to all of the volunteers and organizers, as well as the sponsors: Bellbrook-Sugarcreek Parks, City Barbeque, Dots Market, Friends of the BSPD, Greene County Parks, River’s Edge Canoe Rental, Rivers Unlimited, and Sugarcreek Township.

Meet the park district's 2010 summer program staff.

My name is Lauren Enns, I am a graduate of Oakwood HS and have just finished my sophomore year at the University of Dayton in the Pre-Physical Therapy program.  I am one of the P layground Club Coordinators for the summer.  As a Canadian, I love working and playing outdoors and am excited to share this interest with some of Bellbrook’s youngest citizens!

Hello, my name is Carrie Hinders and I’m one of the Playground Club Coordinators.  I am a recent graduate of the University of Dayton with a degree in Middle Childhood Education.  I have been a lifetime resident of Bellbrook and fondly remember participating in the park district's events.  I am looking forward to returning to being involved in the park district's summer events and for having the opportunity to meet your children.

My name is Abbi Smith.  I am originally from Sidney, OH.  In August I will be entering my senior year at the University of Dayton.  I am studying to be a middle school math and science teacher and am so excited to be working at Bellbrook-Sugarcreek Park District this summer!  I enjoy tennis, science, biking, art, traveling, and movies.  I hope to have lots of fun this summer planning activities and helping to coordinate art in the park and nature explorers!

2009 Volunteer of the Year

The Bellbrook Sugarcreek Park District would like to recognize Pete Williams as the 2009 Volunteer of the Year! Mr. Williams has been a long-term volunteer with the park district. He’s been monitoring all of the blue bird boxes on park property for the last 15 years. He recently expanded his volunteer services to assist with programs. He graciously volunteered to lead two bluebird box monitoring programs in March. He also presented a speaker series program called "Bluebirds in Our BSPD Parks" this past October. Thank you, Pete for your time, enthusiasm, and commitment to the park district!  In the photo:  Program Coordinator, Trisha Grady Hannah presents the 2009 Volunteer of the Year Award to Pete Williams

The Bellbrook-Sugarcreek Park District held their first annual Gingerbread House Contest earlier this month.  All 8 entries were very unique in their own way, which made judging very difficult.  The park district hosted an Open House at the Community Center on 12/15/09.  The participants and public were invited to view the gingerbread houses.  Refreshments and crafts were also available during the Open House.  The 2009 Gingerbread House Winners were proudly announced that night.

1st place winners – Brianna, Justin, and Kylie Eason

2nd place winners – Danielle and Elaina Brode

3rd place – Flanagan Family

Thank you to all who participated in this year’s contest.  Hope to see you in 2010!
