Adult Enrichment Classes:

Knitting 101

4/16/13, 4/23/13, 5/13/13, 5/21/13 (CANCELLED) or June, July and Aug by appointment

Don’t give up, it’s not too late to learn! The truth is ANYONE can learn the basics of knitting, no exceptions! We have multiple classes to help you start creating useful pieces one stitch at a time! This pressure free class will be taught by instructor Alison Jenks who has been an avid knitter since she was 8 years old; she has also been teaching numerous men, women young and old how to knit for 10 years. Register 2 days before each class.

Ages: 16-116

Time: 5-6pm

Knitting 4 Fun Social Group

Wednesdays, on-going each week starting in March 2013

Whether you are knitting for relaxation, charity or just to get crafty this is the group for you. All skill levels are welcome; we can all learn something from each other. Registration by 3pm the day before all meetings; the group will not meet if there are no signups. Some knitting experience required; don’t have any knitting experience? Check out our knitting 101 class. Registration by 3pm the day before all meetings. No meeting 5/1, 6/19, 7/3, 7/31, 8/7, and 8/21.

Knitting 102: now let’s try round!

Thursdays, by appointment

Now that you have been knitting scarves and rectangular fabrics for a while, it is time to learn how to keep your head and ears warm! You will learn the basics to knit on round needles in order to create comfy hats and other three dimensional knitting projects. You will need to provide your

own yarn for your project. Please give 2 days notice.

A.S.S.E.R.T Women/Teen: Active &  Simple Safety Education Response Training for Women

Saturday, 2/23/13 (CANCELLED)

Ease your mind, increase your feeling of safety and reduce your fear. In this dynamic course, adult women and young women ages 13 and older will learn how to become safer. Includes a safety awareness and tools seminar, a physical skill development session and a course of exercises to help reinforce the learning process and build confidence. Arm yourself with one of the most important tools you will learn in your lifetime and one of the greatest gifts you can give to yourself and your family - YOUR SAFETY. Vegetable Gardening: Nurturing and Maintaining Your Home Veggie Garden through the year

Perennial garden design: The garden that comes back year after year

Have an old, tired perennial bed you want to redesign or an empty space you want to turn into a perennial garden? Pat Torvik, Greene County Master Gardener will explain how to use design principles to create a new and interesting perennial garden. Registration is encouraged. Walk-ins are welcome.

Building a Home Rain Barrel: Understanding the Management of Rainwater in your Yard

Come to learn about the benefits, site selection, maintenance and construction of a rain barrel. This informative program will be presented by Greene County Soil and Water Conservation. Rain barrels, supplies and guidance will be available to participants with paid registration is due by 5/3/13. We will have a limit of 40 barrels available, walk–ins are welcome to attend and learn the process.

Rain gardens: A practical and economical approach to understanding the what’s, why’s and how’s of managing the rain water in your yard

Garden Insects: The Good and the Bad

Thyme for Herb Gardening: The Basics

Join Greene County Master Gardeners for an introductory discussion of herbs. We’ll cover various ways herbs are used and basic gardening tips for growing herbs. 10 common herbs will also be discussed, including a description, use, and growing environment for each herb. Luscious Lawns: A practical approach to creating and maintaining a healthy lawn

Hatha Yoga

Tuesdays, 2/19-4/2 (3/5 class is a special $10 drop-in), 4/9-5/14, 5/21-6/25, 7/9-8/13, and 8/20-9/24

This class is a system of relaxation, breathing, exercise and meditation designed to reduce stress, increase energy and enhance strength, flexibility and balance. This class will be an eclectic style of yoga and meditation based on sound principles of traditional yoga practice. Please wear loose, comfortable clothing and bring a mat or blanket.  Instructor: Steve Chappell. Register by in the Friday before each news session.

Gentle Yoga

Thursdays,  Thursdays, 2/21-3/28, 4/4-5/9, 5/16-6/20, 6/27-8/8 (no class 7/4), 8/15-9/19

This class is for beginners as well as more experienced students who want a gentle, more slower and relaxing practice. We will combine relaxation techniques, proper breathing, gentle stretches and meditation.  People with injuries, health problems, or other issues that limit mobility or cause pain can also participate. Please wear loose, comfortable clothing and bring a mat or blanket.  Instructor: Steve Chappell. Register by in the Friday before each news session.

Tails To Trails Hikes

First Friday every month March through November

This dog hiking program is a fun opportunity to socialize. All dogs are required to have an accompanying adult human and six-foot leash. Participants must have control of their dogs at all times. Bring a towel for muddy paws and a water bowl. This program will be cancelled during inclement weather. Registration is required by the Thursday before the program.
