What animals migrate or hibernate during the winter and who are the seven sleepers? Join Naturalist, Kendra Schide inside the community center to explore the changes that animals and plants experience during the winter months. Play a fun game of Migration Headaches and be prepared to go for a short hike to perform some snow experiments if the weather permits. Dress for the weather. No registration is required.

Monday, 1/16/12
Learn about the common Ohio birds you’ll see at your feeder this winter, as well as what they eat. Ohio Certified Volunteer Naturalist, Bill Schieman will teach you about the ways they survive the harsh conditions and what predators they have. You’ll also explore the Gooding Addition during a short hike and make a suet cake to take home. Dress for the weather. Register by 1/12/12.

Saturday, 2/4/12 at 2-4pm or schedule by appt after school - allow for 2 hours
Your brownie troop is invited to attend this special program. Activities will be planned in order to complete the Eco-Explorer Badge. The event will be held rain or shine – so dress for the weather. An adult is required to stay with their troop or individual scout that registers. Space is limited. Please register in advance by 2/1/12 for the Feb program.

Families are invited to join members of the Miami Valley Astronomical Society (MVAS) for an evening of stargazing. You’ll have the opportunity to view the beautiful night sky through their various telescopes. No registration required. This program will be cancelled during inclement/cloudy weather.

Bring your plastic containers (no glass please) and your detective hands as we go on a herpetology hunt for all our favorite reptiles and amphibians. Learn about Ohio’s venomous snakes and adorable salamanders from Naturalist, Kendra Schide. Wear your old shoes in case of mud! No registration required.

Bring the family out to learn more about ruby-throated hummingbirds. Ohio Certified Volunteer Naturalist, Bill Schieman will teach you what they eat, when they migrate and return, and how to attract them in your backyard. You’ll also be able to take home a feeder. Registration is encouraged by 4/16/12. Walk-ins are welcome.

Do you know what Ohio’s state fossil is? Bring the family out for an evening to learn about the Trilobite and other Ohio fossils such as horn corals and bryozoans.
