Recreation and Environmental Program Manager

 
Position Overview: Reporting to the Executive Director, this position will be responsible for providing direction and overall management of the District’s recreation and environmental programs.  Performs representational duties related to assigned functions.

 

Job Functions
  • Ensures District policy, programs, goals, objectives, and guidelines are understood and met.
  • Develops, manages, and provides oversight to a comprehensive recreation and environmental programs and related youth and adult activities including community wide special events; special interest classes; summer youth and adult classes.
  • Works directly with District Naturalist to coordinate and implement programs that specifically address District mission.
  • Provides management oversight, coordination, promotion, implementation, and evaluation of recreation and environmental programs, activities, and projects.
  • Develops, justifies, and defends proposed budget submissions, including annual budget objectives.  Ensures direct employees follow budgetary guidelines.
  • Builds and cultivates community and vendor relationships.
  • Prepares and reviews a variety of correspondence, Board material, manuals, and reports.
  • Oversees and manages all District marketing material.
  • Motivates, develops, and evaluates staff, including seasonal, interns, and permanent employees.
  • Assists in the development of program and operational standards, evaluates staff’s performance regarding these standards.
Other Skills/Abilities
  • Positively responds to comments and constructively addresses community complaints
  • Comprehensive knowledge of public recreation principles
  • Coordinates, schedules, and maintains related records and statistics for programs and personnel.
  • Thorough knowledge of leisure and outdoor recreation management, techniques, principles, and practices.  Must have significant knowledge of management and supervisory principles and sound leadership skills.
Requirements
  • Undergraduate or associate degree from an accredited college or university in recreation or a closely related field.
  • Four years of experience in the field of recreation.  At least two of the four years should be at a supervisory level. 
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted at the discretion of the Director.
Special Conditions
  • A valid State of Ohio driver’s license is a condition of initial and continued employment in this position.

Maintenance Department:

Seasonal Maintenance Technician I 

This position will perform a variety of tasks which include but are not limited to mowing & trimming and general park maintenance. Approximately 32-40 hours per week. This position requires availability from May/June 2018- August/September 2018. Schedule includes occasional evenings, weekends and holidays. Must be 18 or older with a valid driver’s license.

Seasonal Maintenance Technician II

This position will perform a variety of tasks which include but are not limited to mowing & trimming and general park and facility maintenance. Approximately 32-40 hours per week. This position requires availability from March/April 2018- October/November 2018, Monday- Friday 7:30 to 4:00 and several evenings, weekends.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must be 18 or older with a valid state driver’s license
  • Secondary education and/or experience working in park maintenance, landscaping, turf management, or other related required
  • Strong organizational skills, leadership, and communication skills required
